Nine Month Contract by Amy Daws: Best romance books of 2024

This is a standalone book and was later turned into a series. The next book, “Last on the List,” has the story of Wyatt’s brother Max. If you liked the first book, it can always be a good idea to read the next book. No?

Summary:

Wyatt Fletcher is 38 years old and wishes to become a father without a wife because he had a terrible relationship in the past. So, he thought of having a baby through surrogacy.  He consulted an agency for getting a surrogate but found the process very tiring. He met almost ten surrogates but didn’t seem to find the right one, and the agency further stopped offering him its services.

Wyatt got frustrated but saw hope when her niece, Everly, stepped in to help him. Everly happened to meet Trista, whom the agency rejected because she didn’t meet her criteria. Everly told Trista that she was looking for a surrogate for her uncle and convinced her to meet Wyatt, and she agreed to it.

Nine Month Contract

After the meeting, Wyatt and Trista made an agreement, and she agreed to become Wyatt’s Surrogate because she needed money to start an animal rescue center. She came and started living in Wyatt’s house, where two of his brothers lived in the mountain house.

In the past, Wyatt had a failed relationship and even had disagreements with his brother due to his relationship. So, Wyatt is not very friendly, has a reserved personality, and only talks a little. He is carrying the baggage of his past experiences, and the trauma is still there. Trista tries to do everything independently and does not reply to Wyatt for her needs as she struggles to be independent.

As the surrogacy agreement continues, Wyatt and Trista’s relationship begins to evolve unexpectedly. They agreed that they would maintain a professional distance, but gradually, the opposite happened due to some mutual experiences. Their bond grows more muscular, with many emotions, including warmth and fun.

They built trust and love in their relationship and ultimately confessed their feelings for each other, although they only agreed to have a professional bond. Wyatt’s family also develops a good bond with Trista, and she is really happy because her parents neglected her in her childhood.

Wyatt and Trista helped each other overcome the barriers both faced in their lives. Their relationship was no longer contractual, but it had moved beyond that. Wyatt was happy to find Trista as he had lost faith in finding someone with whom he could spend the rest of his life after his past bad experience.

Wyatt and Trista got engaged to each other and had a daughter. Wyatt’s family had been supportive of both Wyatt and Trista throughout their journey. And that’s how a relationship on a temporary contract only ended up being permanent for Wyatt and Trista.

Pros and Cons:

PROS
  • The story was a fusion of humor and emotions, making it attractive to read.
  • The book gave hope that past traumas can be forgotten with support and commitment from each other.
CONS
  • The ending of the story was entirely predictable from the beginning.
  • Some readers found the informal surrogacy carried out without professional help inappropriate.

Review:

The contract of surrogacy between Wyatt and Trista began on a contract basis, and it was very obvious that both of them would fall for each other because they were to spend time together. It was good to see Wyatt caring for Trista, who had not experienced such emotions before as she was a neglected child in her childhood. Wyatt’s point of view of relationships changed when he met Trista, as he thought he would not find someone compatible in life.

Nine Month Contract by Amy Daws Book Review

I appreciate both helping each other to overcome their past traumas and being each other’s support system. A notable aspect of the story was Wyatt’s family’s support for Trista throughout her journey, which made things easier for her. Instead of keeping their feelings to themselves, they confessed and got engaged, turning their professional bond into a personal bond. It was found that both Wyatt and Trista made an effort to make things work out rather than only one trying hard to pull it off.

Conclusion:

Wyatt had a failed relationship in the past and had no children. As time passed, he wanted to become a father but didn’t want to get married due to his bad experience. He took the services of an agency to get a surrogate, but none of the women seemed to meet his criteria. He got frustrated, but then Wyatt’s niece, Everly, helped her uncle and made him meet Trista. Trista was willing to offer the services of surrogacy because she needed money. She wanted to open an animal rescue center. After interviewing, Wyatt selected Trista and they agreed.

“Emotional, witty and 100% compelling, Nine Month Contract was an absolute joy to read! Rating 4/5”

-Billie Skye (The Paperback Princess)

While living together, Wyatt and Trista fell for each other. Both of them had past traumas. Trista was neglected by her parents in her childhood, which made her feel unwanted. Wyatt used to show love and care towards Trista, and she got attracted while experiencing these emotions. Later, they both confessed their feelings and got engaged. They had a daughter and started living happily together. I will rate it 4.2/5 for the storyline and character development. How would you rate it?
