Hey everybody, and welcome back to another book review. Today, I’m going to be reviewing The Locked Door by Freida McFadden. This is an author that I’ve never heard of before. I picked her book up by chance around the holidays and am very glad I found her.
I have also been seeing a lot of her stuff being talked about in different Facebook groups for book readers as well as on TikTok, BookTok, and things like that. Freida McFadden has been calmly composing some exciting and original suspenders in her spare time.
The Locked Door by Freida McFadden Overview:
The story introduces us to Nora Davis in two separate narratives. In the first one, she is an eleven-year-old girl who sometimes hears weird noises from her father’s cellar. One day, she finds the willpower and curiosity to look. She sees a lady in a cage and her father for the monster he was this whole time. In the second narrative as an adult, Nora has made sure that no one knows who her father is.
She wants to forget about her past and live a quiet life as a surgeon. Until she discovers one of her young female patients has been murdered in the same unique and horrific way that her father killed his victims. It soon becomes clear that someone knows who Nora is, and they want her to take the fall. But she’s not a killer. The police can’t pin anything on her.
GENRE:
This book, I think, focuses on articles on fear as well as anxiety and also includes the dark side of human nature. The characters in this book internally struggle with their past, and the copycat killings create anxious and suspenseful circumstances. This book is a Psychological Thriller, which may not be suitable for some people.
AGE RATING:
According to me and other people around the globe, this book is best suited for mature teens and adults, likely 16 and above. There is no age limit after 18. When choosing a book, viewing individual sensitivity and maturity levels is always best.

The Locked Door PLOT SUMMARY:
Eleven-year-old Nora lives an apparently normal life with her parents in a quiet suburban town. The reality is her seemingly kind father has a hideous secret: he’s a serial killer. One day, the truth flashes as the police come and arrest him for his terrible offenses. This made Nora away from her monster father, and now she doesn’t want to see him in her entire life.
Years later, Nora has become a successful surgeon. Now, she forgets the shadows of her past deep within. She has created a new identity, taking herself away from everything linked with her father’s monstrosities. Living a solo life, she tries to keep her past hidden, worrying that its exposure could destroy everything she’s made. Yet, her carefully made peace is destroyed when two of her young patients are murdered in a very familiar way, the methods used by her father.
As doubt falls upon her, Someone knows her secret, and they’re using it to frame her in this incident. She wants to prove her blamelessness and reveal the truth about the copycat killings; Nora undertakes a dangerous investigation. She retraces the actions of her father’s crimes, risking into the dark underworld of his past. As she gets deeper, she unearths mysteries that shake her to the root, examining everything she believed she knew regarding her father and herself.
The research reveals a web of hidden connections. Nora’s girlhood memories resurface, filled with nervous details that tell a deeper net with her father’s monster side than she dared to accept. Could there be more to her story than she remembers? Is the line between innocence and darkness really that thin?

As the copycat killers become more serious, the pursuit amplifies. Nora thinks that she has been drawn into a deadly game with her life and senses hanging in the balance. Forced to face not only the current threat but also the chilling legacy of her past, Nora has to solve the truth before it’s too late.
A stunning disclosure pitches everything into a query.
“Blue eyes and dark hair. I can’t help but think that it’s the same combination my own father found especially alluring. The girl they found in our home, Mandy Johansson, had blue eyes and dark hair. So did almost all of his victims.”
Freida McFadden, The Locked Door
The originality of the copycat killer sends shivers down your spine, leaving you speechless. The climax goes into the deepness of human darkness, showcasing the complexities of family bonds, concussions, and the enduring effects of the past. “The Locked Door” exceeds the genre of mere psychological suspense. It gets into deep themes of individuality, the personality of evil, and the strength of the human spirit.
My REVIEW:
I started on June 1st, and I finished on the morning of June 3rd. I probably could have finished it on June 2nd if I hadn’t fallen asleep. This was a page-turner that had me guessing and wondering the whole way through. As I read, I was highlighting and making notes to see if I could pinpoint clues along the way. I’ve got some markers in there, and you know, just a couple of things that I marked, My father is an incredibly dangerous man who has done unpredictable things.
This one was really one of my favorites. I liked how the story is told with a dual timeline. So you have the past with 11-year-old Nora, and then the present, um, and this really helped me not only to learn Nora’s backstory but also to keep me wondering and discovering evidence to make connections to the present timeline.
So, that is my review of The Locked Door by Freda McFadden. I suggest you buy this epic novel. I will give it 4.5 out of 5, so what do you give to it? Let’s see!!!

The Locked Door
“But my fingerprints in her house? How could that have happened?”
The Locked Door
“I hate it when there’s a load of laundry sitting in the dryer. It’s like I can sense the laundry in there, taunting me. Put me away, Nora. That’s not strange, is it? Doesn’t everyone’s laundry talk to them?”
