The book’s main message is increasing moral values and forgiving people (although it also touches on love and romance). Give others a chance to live, neglecting their past and skipping their mistakes. Everyone deserves a second chance to let the change happen to them. The good thing is that it teaches you forgiveness, family love, the value of tears, and happiness.
Age Restriction:
Like all other Colleen Hoover books like “It Ends With Us” and “Ugly Love,” this book also demands maturity. Normally, I don’t pay much attention to mature and physical content, but the way Colleen described them was pumping my heart. “Reminders of Him” is an adult book. If you are over your teenage, you can consider reading this book if you are comfortable with that. Graphically, the book is okay.
As far as your age, the reader should be at least 17. If you are mature enough, this is going to be great for you as you can feel more than kids do.
Genre:
The novel targets all Contemporary Romance, Love, Drama, and YA Romance. Real emotions with a blend of fiction and beautified writing techniques are all an exciting book should have. I know what you want to hear, and the answer is YES! “Reminders of Him” is spicy as well. Sometimes emotional, sometimes switching between happy and sad, a great mixture of feelings.
Main Themes:
“Reminders of Him” explores the themes of love and its various forms. Love doesn’t come alone; sadness and grief, loneliness, breaking heart, hopelessness to gain hope, loss, and gains, and forgiveness also come along with love. These aspects are also covered in the book.
We can see the personal growth of characters who gain willpower and an energetic hope for a happy life, which has a positive impact on us. You can also see how staying consistent with what you deserve proves you right. The value of forgiveness, which gives a new life to the developing and changing person, is of great affection. I think I covered up all the themes, Didn’t I?
Major Characters:
Kenna Rowan: She is the main character of the book. Kenna is the ex of Scotty and the future wife of Ledger.
Ledger Ward: A 28-year-old bar owner, helper, and husband of Kenna. Ledger is the best friend of Scotty.
Scotty Landry: Kenna’s first love and father of her daughter.
Diem Landry: Daughter of Kenna and Scotty.
Patrick and Grace Landry: Parents of Scotty and caretaker of her daughter when her mom was in jail.
Book Summary:
The summary is completely kept FREE OF SPOILERS so that you get the real fruit when you read the book.
At the beginning of the story, we get to know that Kenna Rowan comes out from a five-year prison sentence, and after reading the story, we get to know that she was involved in an accident driving drunk, which resulted in her boyfriend and first love Scotty’s death. Although it was not completely her fault because she loved Scotty too much, who can stop death from coming? But driving drunk is literally a flaw. Kenna is sentenced to prison after that in the case of “Manslaughter” for five whole years.
Kenna is in jail, and a twist comes here. Kenna is pregnant with her and Scotty’s child. Scotty is no more – the child lost every sight of her father. She gave birth to a little girl and named her Diem. She had some years left to live in the cells, so the child’s life was getting ruined. Scotty’s parent took Dien far away from Kenna. Scotty’s parents (Patrick and Grace Landry) took care of Dien for about 4 years. This was good for Kenna as someone was there to look after Dien, and she was also happy.
“Reading is a hobby, but for some of us, it’s an escape from the difficulties we face. To all of you who escape into books, I want to thank you for escaping into this one.”
Reminders of Him
Bingo! Kenna is out of jail, and a mother who is thirsty to meet her little child for the first time is on her way. The glass of happiness breaks when we read that Scotty’s parents are zero interested in Kenna as they think she is their son’s murderer. Even though it is clear that it was an accidental phenomenon, how could it be proved? On the other side, Diem is Scotty’s parent’s everything, so they are not happy to let Dien go. Kenna is completely exhausted; she wants her child back and doesn’t want to let anyone know about her presence in the small town where she lives. Everyone knows about the accident, so things will go crazy for her if the news of her comeback is spread.
“There was before you and there was during you. For some reason, I never thought there would be an after you.”
Reminders of Him, Colleen Hoover
Kenna has no money and no job. She ends up going to a bar where she meets an attractive man, Ledger. Both get interested in each other at first sight, but Kanna cannot manage that. Her main focus is to get her daughter back. Again, a round of twisting thrills, Ledger is Scotty’s close friend. He lives near Dien and has spent a lot of time with her. Ledger still doesn’t know that Kenna is her mom.
Ledger and Kenna develop great connections, and they sleep together and have a great time. They were more physical with each other. Slowly, Kenna revealed everything to Ledger, and he started thinking of her and her problems. Ledger proves to be an angel for her as he is the one who really wants her happiness.
“It proves that time, distance, and devastation allow people enough opportunity to craft villains out of people they don’t even know.”
Colleen Hoover
We get switching point of views between Ledger and Kenna, which gives a deep understanding of the story. Ledger helped Kenna prove herself to Scotty’s parents, and it worked. The story has a happy ending. Everyone is happy due to Kenna’s bravery and high standards. She stood consistent all the time, which proved to be the real king of her life. How she got here, what Kenna and Ledger did, how they got Dien back, believe me, these hidden things will blow your mind; go-ahead for the book, as it may be your favorite CoHo book from now.
“Now that I’ve forgiven myself, the reminders of him only make me smile.”

Review and Thoughts:
This book is a perfect example of Colleen Hoover’s ability to evoke your emotions, making you cry, love, smile, laugh and explore the new you. I just didn’t get the lessons of traditional love and hate but also lessons about morals and social issues of the evil-minded people not forgiving someone in their “ego”.
The characters are well-settled and well-designed. The best part of the book is Kenna, obviously a great woman. Kenna is a role model for modern women, teaching them to stay strong. I am on my journey to be “Kenna,” not by killing someone but by staying strong and committed to my loved ones. The characters throw positive qualities on us; we just need to feel them.
Ledger is the friend of Scotty. Kenna is the cause of Scotty’s death. Kenna is a mom who wants her kid back, but the kid is raised with her grandparents, just enjoying a normal life. Dien, the kid, is her grandparents’ everything, but her mom wants her back. How complex these relations are!!! Imagine the pen of CoHo, which wrote these complexities in such a beautiful way that everyone could go deep through these and understand the depth of their feelings.
The story shows the value of parenting. Diem, how lucky she is; she has a caring mom fighting for her, just to look Dien. The book made me cry (for real). Too much obsessed with this book. Crying and crying and crying, I don’t remember how much I cried.
The writing style is amazing; the book is managed in such a way that you predict or guess something about the scene, and at the end, your own opinions seem weird to you. You make an opinion, and she makes you think that where your calculations were wrong, LOL! Everything written is just touching the layers of perfection.
Something that I noticed was extra drama where it was less needed. The ending was good, but it was way more dramatic. The characters making wrong choices often made me angry, but in the end, everything is fine.
Conclusion:
“Reminders of Him” by Colleen Hoover is a touching story about a woman named Kenna Rowan. She goes through a lot of tough times after a really sad accident. She ends up in trouble with the law and has to fight to keep her daughter. The book talks about forgiving others, understanding love, and how people change and become better. Colleen Hoover tells the story in a way that really makes you feel for the characters. Even though there are some really intense parts, the book shows how relationships can be complicated. It makes you think about how important it is to forgive and how strong people can be.
