Things I can’t dream up too. The ways it will all go wrong, and the beauty that can only happen in the wake. A second act I fell into, and the home that I chose, as much as it chose me. I can’t wait. I can’t wait for this whole world I’ve invited to surprise me.

Miles’ sister Julia came to see Daphne and told her about how Miles has been suppressing emotions in his childhood, and this has made him doubt everything now. Daphne told Miles that she knew he went to see his father. She appreciated his love for her and told him that she wanted to be together with him. Miles and Daphne started living together, and they arranged a housewarming party. Daphne’s mother came to visit her daughter, and she told her the” Funny Story” about how she met Miles.
- It has a powerful message that suppressing emotions can lead to self-doubt and distrust.
- The story tells that it is always better to have one’s own identity than be partnered with someone for your happiness.
- A little more direction in the narrative would have made the story more interesting.
- Adding more characters could have been more fun rather than reading about just two people who are trying to get over their exes.
Review:
The book begins with minimal background information and comes straight to the main characters, Daphne and Peter. A drastic event of breakup between Daphne and Peter took place in the beginning which was a bit sad. How can Peter be so rude and blunt to Daphne that he is breaking up with her to be together with his childhood friend Petra. I found Miles’ character positive and helpful; they offered Daphne to stay with her as she was homeless.
I liked how Daphne began a job at a children’s library and chose to be independent and make her own identity rather than being always partnered with someone. It felt so good to read how Miles went to Daphne’s father to ask him to say goodbye to daphne before leaving as she was upset. I liked Miles’ concern for Daphne. Peter got a lesson for life when Petra left him that if you hurt other’s feelings, your feelings get hurt in return, too. It was great to read that Daphne refused to be back with Peter again because once a cheater will always be a cheater.
