It Ends With Us Overview | What is the book about?

It Ends with Us Overview

Lily first meets Ryle on a rooftop, and by some chance, they kiss and develop a relationship. Lily still had some memories of her ex, Atlas. Lily and Ryle married. Everything went straightforward, but somehow, Ryle started having commitment issues. After some time, he started abusing Lily. This was a dark period for Lily as she was completely alone.

The abuse continued, and Lily gave birth to a baby. For her and her baby’s protection, she broke up with Ryle and left him. The heartbreaks, tears, and shocks made this book stand out from other romance books. Despite a fictional story, the author has raised a common issue of home abuse and unwanted force on some victims who cannot speak because they are hopeless or because they have no one to get help from.

Summary:

At first, it was just a simple and straight romance book for me, but as I went pages into pages, it felt like something I couldn’t even express here. Again telling you it is not a sweet and cute romantic couple story; it’s far more related to reality and heart games.

The book tells two love stories at the same time. Don’t worry; it’s well-written and will cause no confusion. In the very beginning, we see the main protagonist, Lily Blooms. Lily had a bad relationship with her father. He was abusive to her and made things complicated for Lily. Her father died at the start of the book. Being raised in an abusive environment, Lily became weak from the inside and was left hopeless and fearful. When Lily meets Ryle, a neurosurgeon, she falls in love with him. Ryle is extremely beautiful, and the character buildup made me fall for him.

It ends with Us Summary

Ryle is charming, wealthy, successful, funny, and ambitious. Collectively, he is perfect, like a dream man. Lily met Ryle on a rooftop, and while staring at each other, they got closer. Within a while, their faces moved forward, and they started with a beautiful kiss. Lily was extremely happy because she thought she would be completed now. Their relationship grew, and Lily and Ryle became a married couple. As time passed, Ryle became something he was not meant to be. He started fighting with Lily, abusing her, and sexually assaulting her.

Simultaneously, they ended up breaking up, and Lily was going to leave Ryle. When she was packing up her apartment, Lily found an old journal of her. The journal made her remember Lily’s high school’s first love, Atlas. Then, we see flashbacks from Lily’s relationship with Atlas. Atlas was a homeless boy. Lily somehow helped him, and they fell for each other.

It ends with us

Lily was pregnant, and now she has a baby with her. She is hopeless, helpless, homeless, crying (I was also crying), and alone as every possible problem has fallen in her way. What happens next? Will she meet someone? Does her happiness end here? Or will Atlas and Ryle make a comeback? Everything will be cleared after reading the book, as this post is kept as spoiler-free as I could.

One Hint: This is not the end; the twists will happen, and the next sequel to this book is also waiting for you. Shhh!

Review:

This book is super exciting, and it’s hard to stop reading! Even when you try to take a break, the story keeps pulling you in. I just want to say that it makes you stay up late just to find out what happens next. The main character, Lily, is really cool. She’s strong and brave, and her journey in the story is realistic. She faces tough situations with a tough mind, which makes her someone we can all look up to.

It End with US Quotes

The book has a powerful message that boosts you as you read. It talks about the importance of a relationship, the complexities of a relationship and the results of commitment. Even though it’s a love story, this book is different. It doesn’t follow the usual love story rules. Instead, it exposes domestic abuse as well and surprises you with unexpected twists. At the start, Lily sits on a roof after attending her father’s funeral. It feels good when someone who is broken and sad finds a caretaker. Lily finds Ryle, who is perfect for her, but he also does the same as Lily’s father did. This was an actual strike in my heart.

When I read the book again, I found even more than I noticed the first time. The book’s story has layers that you can keep discovering. The talks about abuse and violence at home in a sensitive way may be great motivation for any suspect who is facing these issues. It shows how important it is to talk about these tough topics instead of pretending they don’t exist. As you follow Lily’s journey, you start to understand what it’s like for people who go through abuse.

Lily’s story teaches us about courage and strength. We see her change from judging others to understanding what really matters for her. It shows how hard it can be to love someone who hurts you.

The significant amount of emotions stuffed in the book might not be suitable for soft-hearted persons. The themes of love, pain, heartbreak, and shattered expectations made me cry so much that the pages became wet. All the trigger warnings you can imagine apply to this book. The ending was a bit traditional, what we call a “Happy ending.” I was expecting more, but the sequel to this book crossed my criticism about the ending.

I understood many aspects of love, bravery, and living life fully. It reminds me to accept all my feelings and experiences, whether good or bad.
